Les Grandes Baigneuses
The Great Bathers
Pierre-Auguste Renoir · 1887
Philadelphia Museum of Art
Philadelphia, United States
About this painting
Renoir spent three years on this monumental nude group, making numerous preparatory drawings; its sculptural figures and dry, linear handling reflect his study of Ingres and Raphael's frescoes, marking his decisive break from Impressionist spontaneity.
