About this painting
Known in French as "Deux Tournesols," this 1887 Paris canvas (43.2 x 61 cm) shows two cut, withering sunflowers lying on the ground rather than in a vase, predating Van Gogh's famous Arles vase series. Paul Gauguin owned and displayed the painting above his bed for years; it is now at the Metropolitan Museum of Art.
