Paul Cézanne
1839–1906
Cézanne exhibited with the Impressionists early on but soon pushed past them, breaking objects into geometric planes of color in his native Provence. His late work, especially the many views of Mont Sainte-Victoire, is often cited as the bridge between Impressionism and 20th-century modern art.
